The Modern Classic from the Herreshoff original. Each sailboat was built specific to customer needs.
Herreshoff's-ALERION has captured sailor's hearts ever since Nathanael Herreshoff designed and built the original in 1912. Herreshoff knew what he was doing - masterfully blending exquisite lines and materials to arrive at a very special boat. Herreshoff sailed his Alerion for many years near his homes in Bermuda and later in Bristol, Rhode Island. A perfect daysailer for the single handed sailor.
Look at the original lines as drawn by Herreshoff. The boat is a centerboard sloop with a large main and boom overhanging the transom. The mast goes through the deck forward of the housetop.
Herreshoff-Alerion is a versatile sailing yacht; her stability and predictability make her ideal for family outings, racing, and single handled sailing. A simple boat. In a light breeze, Herreshoff-Alerion ghosts along effortlessly. Her sleek lines make for powerful yet surefooted and comfortable performance in strong wind. Drawing only 2' 5" with the center board up, Herreshoff-Alerion can sneak into coves and shallows easily and confidently.
Down below, her cuddy is warm and snug, with plenty of room to chart a course, read a book, or take a nap. Herreshoff-Alerion's elegant mahogany house sides and coamings, rails, and louvered doors along with the teak cockpit and cockpit sole are very attractive.
